Knock
World’s Shortest Horror Story!
The World’s Shortest Horror Story consists of only two sentences which were written & published by Frediric Brown in the year 1948.
It reads : “The last man on Earth sat alone in a room. There was a knock on the door…..."
Two sentences and an ellipsis of three dots. The horror, of course, isn’t in the two sentences at all ; it’s in the ellipsis, the implication : what knocked at the door? Faced
with the unknown, the human mind supplies something vaguely horrible.
This Story was titled “Knock” and was first printed in Thrilling Wonder Stories in December 1948.
“Knock” was reprinted in 1949 for the Best Science Fiction Stories.
The story won the Cordwainer Smith Rediscovery Award in the year 2012.
