Read Like A Writer

There are two ways to learn how to write fiction: by reading it and by writing it. Yes, you can learn lots about writing stories in workshops, in writing classes and writing groups, at writers' conferences. You can learn technique and process by reading the dozens of books like this one on fiction writing and by reading articles in writers' magazines. But the best teachers of fiction are the great works of fiction themselves. You can learn more about the structure of a short story by reading Anton Chekhov's 'Heartache' than you can in a semester of Creative Writing 101. If you read like a writer, that is, which means you have to read everything twice, at least. When you read a story or novel the first time, just let it happen. Enjoy the journey. When you've finished, you know where the story took you, and now you can go back and reread, and this time notice how the writer reached that destination. Notice the choices he made at each chapter, each sentence, each word. (Every word is a choice.) You see now how the transitions work, how a character gets across a room. All this time you're learning. You loved the central character in the story, and now you can see how the writer presented the character and rendered her worthy of your love and attention. The first reading is creative—you collaborate with the writer in making the story. The second reading is critical.

Inspirational Thoughts and Sayings for...

 Life, Success and Family

Success is not an accident!

Effective thinking is an indispensible key to successful outcomes.

It is a fact... Successful people have learned to think and respond differently to adversity than most of society.  It doesn't mean they are smarter or work harder. They've learned something that most of us miss...  The ability to see and respond positively to the setbacks life throws at all of us.  They've learned to see them, not as impenetrable road blocks, but as stepping stones on the path to their goals.  This mindset can be easily learned.

Below you will find a plethora of THE thoughts and attitudes of the Super Successful

Self Assesment- when adversity hits, how do you usually respond?

  • #1 Is your first thought something akin to  "why does this always happen to me?".

    • This type of reaction invariably results in a subconscious feeling of despair; that the world is against you and leads to a feeling of helplessness... It is an action stopper. Why even try?  Simply put #1 sets the stage for a VERY high likelihood of failure.

  • #2 Or is your first thought more like--  "Crap!... Ok, how do I fix this?"...

    • #2 Is THE success response.  Yes, it's a neutral acknowledgement that things happen.  But it's so much more...  It recognizes and affirms that a solution exists and that it is within your ability to find it and implement it.

    • #1 is an energy vampire.  It discourages action and without action FAILURE is CERTAIN.

    •  #2 activates confidence, hope and action...  Almost immediately you experience constructive, solution oriented ideas that race to the forefront of your consciousness.  It is these thoughts and ideas that lead to solutions and success.

    • Lastly #2 serves as an affirmation that becomes embeded in your subconscious that in time becomes an automatic mindset that setbacks and even temporary failures are a natural part of life and not to be feared. They are become understood as just one more pot hole on the road to your goals; a stepping stone rather than a brick wall.  See how important this principle really is!

Learn to think successfully... Your future depends on it!

Below are THE thoughts and attitudes of the Super Successful!

How one normally, intellectually and emotionally responds to adversity has an extremely high correlation to the life's goals they have or have not achieved.  Even more importantly it is a strong indicator of how many of their yet unrealized objectives they will or will not  actually achieve in the future.

True- Responding "How do I fix this", is not the end all be all to success and the conquering of adversity...  However, it is ALWAYS the first step...  Without that step Failure is certain.

Realize, it's never too late to become the best, most successful version of you possible.  All you have to do is start!

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is NOW.

  • If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else. --Booker T. Washington

  • If we refuse to put ourselves in a position to fail... we are never in a position to succeed.   Success and failure are flip sides of the same coin.  Our focus must be on success...  If your focus in on avoiding failure...  you will never experience great success. -- Bruce Castro

  • I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. --Michael Jordan.

  • If you aren't failing, you aren't trying...  And if you are not trying... You are FAILING!  Realize, in life there is no such thing as stasis.  You are always either moving forward, or sliding backward... Which Are You?--   Bruce Castro

  • It's a fact... You will never FALL if you never CLIMB. But where is the joy in living your life on the ground?  A life spent going with the flow, experiences neither true success nor enduring happiness...  Realize, even a DEAD FISH can swim DOWN STREAM! The key to a better future, a fulfilling life and continued happiness is ACTION.  Life is a wonderful game... but playing the game is more enjoyable than just watching it... • "GREAT IDEAS ARE USELESS... UNLESS COMBINED WITH POSITIVE ACTION".
Think about it... in your lifetime, how many great ideas have you or someone you know come up with?  And even told friends about?  But it was done over a beer and no one did anything abou it...   Then later you saw someone on Oprah making their fortune off "your" idea?  This scenario plays out over and over.  What's the lesson?

    • IT'S NEVER JUST THE IDEA THAT IMPORTANT!...   It's the action that matters!  Have an idea? ACT ON IT!  See an Opportunity?  ACT!  It's never too late to become who you were meant to be or who you can be!--  Bruce Castro

"Great Ideas and Great Opportunities are useless...

Unless combined with positive action!".  B. Castro

No matter how great the opportunity or idea...  Doing nothing always earns nothing.

Success is not an accident!  Many people look at their doctor, their realtor, their lawyer, the internet guru and say "he's so lucky". or "He's so smart, I wish I could have done that", etc...

It's not about Luck, Ideas, or Intelligence.  It's about Action! WHAT YOU DO is infinitely more important that WHAT YOU KNOWAction is always the key.

     IT'S A FACT:

SUCCESSFUL people are those who are willing to actually do the things that UNSUCCESSFUL people are unwilling to do.

Are good ideas important?  Of course.  Are opportunities important?  Of course.  But without action they are useless.  If you don't try... You Can't Succeed.
